I am not even sure where to begin with my gratitude for the incredible community events I had the honor of being a part of for the past two weeks, but I will sum it up with this story and the photo below… I received a text message minutes before last evening’s EBM Summer Drum Circle began that Seny Daffe, a Master Drummer and Dancer from Guinea that our community has had the privilege of hosting and learning from numerous times over the years, finally reunited with his wife and all of his children (from Guinea) in Vermont after many years of perseverance, and immense support from his whole drum and dance village, including from our upstate NY “drumily”!
Which leads me to the reminder that your donations at these community circles go directly to making a difference in our greater drum community. It was because of generous donations from last Summer’s drum circles that we were able to contribute a large collective sum to Seny to help him with all of the expenses involved with getting his family together… and he/we all did it!
I know that volunteering my time to organize and facilitate these drum circles, and all of the efforts from Drum in Joy students and colleagues, would be “enough” of a community service. But I truly believe that when a group of loving people are doing something positive together, we can have an even farther reaching impact - that ripple effect! - through donations and even more community action.
